How to take care of your pet in rainy season

Splish-splash rain is on the way, heralding the arrival of a refreshing downpour that brings life to the parched earth. The rhythmic pitter-patter of raindrops against windows and rooftops creates a soothing melody, inviting one to cozy up indoors and enjoy the symphony of nature's orchestra. As the rain falls, it washes away the dust and grime, leaving behind a clean and invigorated landscape. The scent of petrichor fills the air, a delightful fragrance that awakens the senses and evokes memories of rainy days past for you and your pets, too.

In today's post, we will discuss how to care for your pet during the rainy season. Let's get right into it.

Although your pet may enjoy being out in the rain, it's important to remember that excessive moisture can be harmful, leading to allergies, rashes, and an increased risk of bacterial and fungal infections. While skin infections can be treated with medication, they often require prolonged treatment.

Rain checks

Drying your pet—After your pet gets wet in the rain, it's crucial to dry them properly to prevent any discomfort or health problems. You can opt for an antifungal dry shampoo followed by gently patting your pet with a dry towel or using a pet dryer. While a pet dryer may be faster, it's important to use it in a low-heat setting to prevent any burns on your pet's delicate skin.

Coat, ears, and paws—When it rains, it attracts various insects like ticks and mites. It's important to regularly inspect areas prone to insects, such as ears and paws. Gently run your fingers through the coat, ears, and paws to detect any unwelcome presence of insects. The abdomen and neck are also common spots for insect bites, so be sure to check these areas too.

Deworming Reminder: Ensure deworming is done prior to the onset of the rainy season. It is advisable to have your pet dewormed before the monsoon to prevent worm infestations and keep your furry friend happy and healthy.

Rain Essentials-

  • Raincoat or Waterproof jacket- Believe me, a raincoat may sound fancy, and many of you may be in a dilemma. However, investing in a raincoat is the best decision you can make during the monsoon season. It not only prevents mud and dirt from accumulating on fur but also protects against skin infections.

  • Waterproof Boots- These boots not only protect their paws but also prevent them from getting dirt into the house

  • Leash- During this rainy season, as you bring joy to your pet by taking care of them, remember to select a durable leash that is essential for the well-being of both pet owners and pets. With a range of leashes to choose from, pick the most suitable one that ensures comfort for both of you.

  • Reflectors- Reflectors are a wonderful human invention that can be attached to various items to enhance visibility on foggy and dark rainy days. Choose harnesses and collars equipped with reflectors to enhance safety and prevent accidents.

  • Microfiber towel- Highly absorbent, quick-drying, and easy to clean, microfiber towels are a great option for pets. Remember to pack a microfiber towel in your pet travel bag when travelling on a rainy day.

  • Waterproof car seat cover- Protect your car seat from mud, water, and fur while travelling with your pet.
