Keeping your feline friend healthy and cared for is essential for a happy life together. Deworming your cat is an important part of that care. This blog covers everything you need to know about deworming your cat.

Reasons for Deworming

Prevent Illnesses - Deworming is important for the prevention of illnesses in cats, both mild and severe. Worm infestation can  cause problems in their digestion system, respiratory problems, and even anaemia.

Protect Humans - Certain worms can be passed from cats to humans. Deworming your cat, especially if they are indoor-outdoor cats, is critical to preventing the  spread of these diseases to humans.

  1. Vomiting or Diarrhea - This can be a symptom of  many health problems, but it is often an indication of a  worm infestation.

  2. Weight Loss or Poor Appetite - Worms can cause weight loss and cause a cat to become lethargic and disinterested in food.

  3. Fur & Skin Issues - Worms can cause hair loss,  rashes, and other irritations.

How to Give Deworming Tablets

The easiest way to give a cat a deworming tablet is to hide it in their food. Crush the tablet into a powder, mix it with a small amount of wet food, and let the cat eat it. Alternatively, you can wrap the tablet in soft  food, like cheese or a small piece of chicken, and give it to the cat.

Precautions When Giving Deworming Tablets

Consult Your Vet - Consult your vet before giving your cat any medication, including deworming tablets. They can help you choose the right type and dose for your cat. Wear Gloves - Wear gloves to minimise the risk of skin irritation or contact with worm eggs. Wash Your Hands - Wash your hands after giving your cat a deworming tablet, especially before eating.

Follow-Up Care After Deworming After deworming your cat, following some precautions is important to ensure their health and well-being.

Flea Control

Keep Your Cat Inside

Monitor Your Cat's  Behavior

Use flea control products to prevent your cat from being reinfected with fleas, which can cause a reinfestation of worms.

Keep your cat inside for a few days after deworming to prevent contact with other cats who may be infected.

Check your cat's behaviour for negative side effects, like vomiting, diarrhoea, or lack of appetite.
